“The Cask of Amontillado”
A Wine Tasting & Performance Piece – Sip the Cup of Sinful Pleasures
“The prince had provided all the appliances of pleasure. There were buffoons, there were ballet-dancers, there were musicians, there was Beauty, there was Wine.”
– Edgar Allan Poe, “The Masque of the Red Death”
The Mechanical Theater Company at The Bistro Romano, Society Hill, Philadelphia, presents Edgar Allan Poe at his most decadent on two consecutive Thursday evenings, October 20 & 27, 2016.
At this combination wine tasting & performance, you will sample an array of wines from the Bistro’s prized cellars while enjoying live performances of such macabre classics as “The Raven,” “Hop-frog,” The Masque of the Red Death” & “The Cask of Amontillado.” Spine-tingling tales and luscious beverages will combine for a Halloween treat unlike any other. This is one vintage you simply must sample.
Poe lived in Philadelphia for six years penning many of his famous works in the house that is now a National Historic Site. Imagine Poe walking down Lombard Street conceiving stories such as “The Tell-Tale Heart” or “The Black Cat.”
The Mechanical Theatre Company performs at various venues throughout the Delaware Valley since 2013. Named for the star-crossed band of misfit performers from Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” The Mechanical Theater specializes in creating theater at historic sites and museums. This unconventional approach highlights Philadelphia’s unique and ubiquitous history, its impressive intellectual culture as well as physical beauty.
Bistro Romano, a neighborhood mainstay in Society Hill for 29 years is situated in an historic 18th century granary, features Italian cuisine including house-made pastas, table-side Caesar salad, full bar & Piano Lounge on Friday & Saturday nights.
