We enjoy wine! My wife and I have traveled to Italy, Australia, Chile, Argentina, France and California to learn about wine and improve our List at Bistro Romano, yet it was when we visited Napa Valley a few years ago, that my wife got an idea. Why not offer the best wines and experts, in an informal setting to our guests. As such, Bistro Romano’s Cellar Club was uncorked!
Bistro Romano’s Cellar Club is a savvy yet fun forum to taste the best grapes from around the World including France, Italy, Spain, Australia and Napa & Sonoma Counties in California.
Featured speakers’ have included Michael Mondavi of Folio Fine Wine Partners, Chris Silva of St. Francis Winery in Sonoma County, California and Elisa Scavino, Owner of the renowned Paolo Scavino Winery in the Piedmonte Wine Region of Italy. Our speakers tell of their family history in winemaking while passionately discussing the body and notes of their respective wines.
The Cellar Club meets in our 120 Room six times a year. Guests upon arrival are greeted with a glass of sparkling wine or champagne, depending upon the Country being discussed and poured that evening.
The Tasting continues; wines are paired with hors d’oeuvres and Artisanal cheeses while our noted wine experts convey the subtle nuances of each wine. In this informal setting, guests armed with confidence and a comfort level, are encouraged to interact with our wine expert, sommelier & fromagier. Most guests ask questions and learn first-hand details about the wine or region that only one-on-one conversation can yield.
During the evening, guests enjoy an elegant dinner buffet prepared to complement the wines offered that evening, and conclude with a dessert assortment, coffee & tea.
A singular distinction of our Cellar Club Tastings is guests leave with a bottle of wine plus a gift certificate to be used in our restaurant on their next visit. Along with a personal experience with the wine maker, special wines and delicious fare, you will enjoy the memory of the Cellar Club Tasting until you attend the next one!

We are very excited to have Marco Stevanoni, Director of Italian Wines from Wilson Daniels Importer, in Philadelphia to host our Cellar Club on Wednesday, November 20, 2013.
Marco will be here to discuss the wines from the Castello di Volpaia Winery located in the medieval village of Volpaia, Tenuta Campo di Sasso Winery located in Bibbona, near the Tyrrhenian Sea and Bibi Graetz Winery located in Castello di Vincigliata, just north of and overlooking Florence. The highest-elevation winery in the Chianti area, Castello di Volpaia owns 46 hectares (114 acres) of vineyards, which are situated at 450 to 600 meters (1,300 to 2,130 feet) on the southern hillsides leading up to the village. Volpaia is committed to organic farming practices in all of its estate vineyards.
The Tenuta Campo di Sasso estate is comprised of approximately 60 hectares (150 acres) divided into three vineyards planted to Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Syrah. The entire area is heavily influenced by its proximity to the coast
Bibi Graetz makes his wine in his family home, Castello di Vincigliata, a medieval castle acquired by his parents when they immigrated to Fiesole, just north of and overlooking Florence. Bibi is known for his passion for old vines; his grapes are sourced from 37 hectares (91 acres) of vines scattered throughout Tuscany, many of which are nearly 60 years old, as well as a small parcel of 60-plus-year-old vines surrounding the castle. Bibi uses only indigenous grapes to make his wine, including Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino, which are grown in Fiesole, and the white varietal, Ansonica, from the island of Giglio, off the Tuscan coast. I find his wines to be outstanding.
Chef will prepare passed hors d’oeuvres to be paired with the featured wines, while placed presentations will include an extensive imported Italian cheese selection from DiBruno’s Bros. and cured Italian meats. Dinner station will include our award-winning caesar salad, a selection of homemade pastas, fresh fish fillet and carved filet mignon. A selection of our desserts and coffee will conclude our chef’s presentation.
